What is a Workshop?

The UNM Health Professions Symposium has over eighty workshops for you to choose from! These workshops have topics ranging from getting ready for a pre-health track in college to having families in medical school, and everything in between. Workshops are also a great way for interested individuals to learn about other careers in healthcare such as population health, medical laboratory sciences, and dental hygiene (and many more!). With so many great workshops this year, it can be hard to choose which ones to attend. So be sure to look through the workshops below and plan ahead!

How do you provide medical care with people with disabilities?
The idea behind this is to provide interested medical personnel an idea of working with individuals with disabilities in the medical profession. There are over 300,000 individuals with disabilities in the state, from young children to senior citizens, and all of them need services from a medical care provider statewide. We need more people in this field, to have a strong background in working with this population.
Having a dialogue is important between the disability community and the professionals in the medical community, so that they can obtain information and a better understanding of each other. Whether the medical professionals are planning a career as a primary physicians, dentist, surgeons, PAs, nurses and other specialist, this would be an important topic to explore.
