Muggle to Healer: A Magical Nurse Residency Adventure
Nurses choose to work in the chaotic and ever-changing world of medicine, but how do they know it’s the right choice for them? It would be simple if they had a Sorting Hat to help place them in the appropriate unit based on their potential and personality, along with a magical school like Hogwarts to advance their skills in real-life situations. We have found a solution: welcome to the enchanting world of Nurse Residency, supported by exceptional nursing professional development experts.
At San Juan Regional Medical Center, we aim to increase engagement in our residency program by incorporating a theme-based approach. We sort new cohorts into houses using the Sorting Hat and host a House Cup yearly to encourage participation. Engaging activities, including relay races, scavenger hunts, and escape rooms, have been adapted to fit this theme, promoting learning and growth through friendly competition. Harry Potter-themed fun is intertwined with key concepts and simulations.
This innovative concept and focus on engagement tactics have led to our program receiving accreditation as a Practice Transition Program (PTAP) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs. Discover how your Nurse Residency program can create a magical experience for your residents while ensuring safe, quality patient care.
