The UNM Health Professions Symposium has over eighty workshops for you to choose from! These workshops have topics ranging from getting ready for a pre-health track in college to having families in medical school, and everything in between. Workshops are also a great way for interested individuals to learn about other careers in healthcare such as population health, medical laboratory sciences, and dental hygiene (and many more!). With so many great workshops this year, it can be hard to choose which ones to attend. So be sure to look through the workshops below and plan ahead!

What can death teach us about health and inequality?
What can death teach us about health and inequality? In this presentation, students will explore real-world cases through the lens of forensic pathology to understand how social determinants of health shape who gets sick, who gets injured, and who dies. We will look beyond the immediate cause of death to examine how factors such as housing, poverty, access to healthcare, environment, and community resources influence health outcomes. Students will learn to think like investigators, connecting individual cases to the larger social forces that affect health and discovering how medicine can help address these challenges.

Doctors of Optometry (ODs) are the independent primary health care professionals for the eye.
